How to read transfer ratios and bonuses

A transfer ratio tells you how many source points become destination points or miles. For example, a 5:4 ratio usually means 5,000 bank points become 4,000 airline miles.

If a partner has an active transfer bonus, the page shows it next to the ratio. Some bonuses are percentage based, while others add a fixed number of extra points after you transfer a certain amount.

Transfer time matters too. A good ratio is less useful if you need an instant transfer and the program normally takes a few days to credit.

Before you transfer points

  • Transfer ratios can change without much notice, so always check the final confirmation screen before moving points.
  • Transfer bonuses can make a weak partner look better for a short time, but only if you already have a real redemption in mind.
  • Some transfers are instant, while others can take days. Timing matters if you are chasing a limited seat or room.

Frequently asked questions

How do I use this points transfer calculator?

Choose a bank or loyalty program, pick the card or source you want to transfer from, and then look at the available airline and hotel partners. If you enter a points amount, the page will also estimate how many miles or hotel points you may receive.

What does a transfer ratio mean?

A transfer ratio shows how many source points you need to get a certain number of destination points or miles. For example, a 5:4 ratio means 5,000 source points become 4,000 airline miles or hotel points.

Do transfer bonuses change the final number I receive?

Yes. If there is an active transfer bonus, the page adds that to the base transfer value. Percentage bonuses increase the normal output by a percent, while fixed bonuses add a set number of extra points after you meet the transfer requirement.
